Keebles Farm – Massey University

Vaccinating ewes - Keebles

Summary:
Keebles is a 287.1 hectare (236.4 ha effective) intensive sheep and beef finishing unit, purchased in 1978. A feature of the farm is Keebles Bush, a 15.5 hectare protected bush reserve considered to be one of the finest remaining examples of podocarp/broadleaf lowland forest in the Manawatu. Free draining recent alluvial soils (Manawatu/Rangitikei) are present on river terraces with poor draining heavy clay soil (Tokomaru) on higher terraces.

Farm objectives:
  • To provide a facility for quality research, teaching and extension in sheep and beef farming.

  • To be managed as a profitable commercial sheep and beef farm.

  • To provide a link between the University and Agribusiness.
